Welcome to Independent University, Bangladesh – also known by its acronym IUB. It is a private sector university with its main campus in Dhaka and an extended campus in Chittagong, the port city of Bangladesh. The University was established in 1993 with professional support from some renowned national and international academics as a pioneer private university. IUB is committed to prepare its students as able professionals --- creative, committed, liberal, alive to their environment and capable to contribute to the country’s advancement as well as achieve their goals in a rapidly changing economic and civic environment.

IUB is known among its students and graduates for providing a good mix of study and social life. A host of activities - including sport, clubs, societies, employment services, accommodation, student services, scholarships, teaching, learning, research - contribute to the total IUB experience. Admission Period
There are two academic semesters namely, Autumn and Spring. Additionally students are also admitted for the brief Summer session lasting five weeks.

*The admission procedure for Autumn (the beginning of the academic year) starts within the first week of July and ends with the commencement of classes in the second /third week of August.

*The admission procedure for Spring starts within the first week of December and ends with the commencement of classes in the third week of January.

*The Admission Test for Summer takes place in the first week of May and ends with the commencement of classes in the second week of June.

Admission Eligibility

*HSC and SSC pass certificates with minimum CGPA of 3.00 in both

*O' level in at least 5 subjects with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 and A' level in at least 2 subjects with a minimum CGPA of 2.00

*International Baccalaureate / other equivalent degrees

*12 class High School Diploma


Provisional admission is offered to candidates awaiting results of HSC, A' level & International Baccalaureate examinations.


Exemption from Admission Test for the students with

1.Minimum SAT-1 score of 1550

2.Minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper based) or 213 (computer based) or 80 (internet based) or

3.IELTS score of 5.5

*Students having Mathematics and English in A’level and scored grade ‘A’ will be exempted from the admission test.

Exemption from foundation courses
1.Students with a grade A in A’level English will be exempted from two foundation courses ENG 101 & ENG 102 & will earn credits for the two courses.

2.Students with a grade A in A’level Math will be exempted from one foundation course MAT 101 or MAT 102 & will earn credits for either of the course.


Full tuition waiver to students with
1.Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.8 (without 4th subject) on a scale of 5.0 in H.S.C. or
2.Two ‘A’ grades in minimum 2 A’ Level subjects.

*30% tuition fee waiver for students having GPA 5 in both SSC & HSC

* 100% tuition waiver to Top 3 scorers in the Admission test

* Admission fee waiver to Top 10 scorers in the Admission test

Credit Transfer Facility
B.A., B.Sc., B.S.S., B.Com (pass) graduates are also eligible for admission. These students may apply to transfer their credits in relevant courses. Syllabus of IUB are designed to suit credit transfers and postgraduate studies abroad.

Provisional Admission
Students taking provisional admission at IUB are required to fulfill all requirements within the stipulated period, failing which the admission will be cancelled and all the credits completed at IUB will be revoked.

Refund of Fees For Provisional Admission
Provisional admissions are given to the students for one regular semester. If any provisionally admitted student fails to submit the required document within the stipulated period the admission is cancelled and he/she may apply for a refund of their tuition fees. In such cases, students are eligible to receive 75% of their paid tuition fees. If these students want to come back to IUB, they are required to complete the admission process again but at the time of submitting the undergraduate admission application form; they are required to mention the previous Student ID number.

Late Admission
Students selected for admission but failing to complete admission formalities within the specified period will have to pay Tk.3,000 /- (Taka three thousand only) as late admission fee.
